Sufyan Ath-Thawri (d. 161 h.) is from the Imāms of the Atba’ At-Tābi’īn and from scholars of Hadith. From the manners of the scholars is to sincerely advise those whom they love, such as their friends, family, and students. Within this short treatise Sufyan gives advice to his student ‘Ali ibn Hasan As-Sulami who was a judge and a scholar in his own right. These are advices connected to creed, manners, and morals of the Muslims. This advice was extracted from the book Hilyah Al-Awliya’ wa Tabaqat Al-Asfiya’ of Abu Nu’aym and contains a methodology for the Muslim to traverse upon in his life.
